Golden Happiness is one of those rare places in Sibu where the experience still feels anchored in tradition — not just in taste, but in scale and occasion. It’s unmistakably a banquet house first, which means the kitchen is built for consistency across large tables, and it shows. The Foochow dishes here lean unapologetically classic: rich, layered, and slightly nostalgic. The braised assorted seafood pot (海味一品煲) is probably the clearest expression of that philosophy — slow, collagen-heavy, and deeply savoury in a way that feels earned rather than engineered. Even their prawn balls and festive platters carry that same DNA: generous, celebratory, and designed to be shared rather than plated for aesthetics. What I appreciate most is that they don’t over-modernise Foochow cuisine. There’s restraint — flavours are allowed to be round, slightly sweet, slightly umami, with that signature depth from long-simmered broths and sauces. It reminds you that Sibu-style Foochow food isn’t about sharp hits; it’s about comfort and continuity. Golden Happiness executes this extremely well, especially in a group setting where the dishes land the way they’re meant to — warm, abundant, and quietly indulgent.
